A dividend stock is a share in a company that periodically pays part of its profit to shareholders. You earn income two ways: the dividend, and any change in the share price as the business performs.

Where the dividend comes from and how it is paid

The company announces a dividend per share. That amount is multiplied by the number of shares you hold on the qualifying date. Then 10% tax is withheld at source before the money reaches your account.

Example (illustrative): you hold 500 shares and the company pays THB 1.50 per share. The gross amount is THB 750, THB 75 is withheld, and THB 675 reaches your account.

Not every company pays dividends, and nobody can guarantee the same payout every year.

XD date vs payment date

  1. Announcement: the company states the dividend amount and the dates.
  2. XD date: buyers on this day do not get this dividend.
  3. Payment date: the cash arrives, often several weeks later.

What to remember: buy in time before the XD date. You do not need to hold until the payment date. Details are in XD date vs payment date.

What to check before buying a dividend stock

How PanPhonDee helps

The app puts XD dates for the stocks you hold into one calendar. Free use includes XD alerts for up to 5 watchlist stocks. Pro removes that limit and adds alerts 7, 3 and 1 days before XD. The dividend log for this year and last year is free.

The app does not tell you which stock to buy. The decision is yours.

FAQ

Is a dividend stock different from an ordinary stock?

A dividend stock is one that pays part of its profit regularly. Its share price can still rise or fall.

Is the XD date the same as the payment date?

No. The XD date decides eligibility. The cash arrives on the payment date the company announces.
